On July 19, Shakhtar played a test game vs the UPL newcomers Kolos
This is the Miners’ eighth friendly in the summer pre-season break: previously, Luis Castro’s men claimed five wins on training camps in Germany and Austria, alongside a draw and a defeat. In today's match, the Orange-and-Blacks’ coach got back to the 4-2-3-1 formation, deploying the central midfield pairing of Oleksandr Pikhalyonok and Marcos Antonio. We also want to mention the starting lineup appearance of Danylo Sikan who played behind the striker, and of Gustavo Blanco Leschuk who played as a target man.
Converted advantage
The early stages of the match were controlled by the Miners, although the first dangerous chance was created by the opponents just hitting the post. The rest of the events happened near the Kovalivka side’s goal. First, Yashkov interrupted the dangerous pass by Blanco Leschuk, then parrying away an attempt of Fernando from the edge of the box. But in the 22nd minute, the goalkeeper of Kolos failed to come to the team’s rescue as well: Dodo delivered the ball to the far corner, Fernando headed it goalwards, with the ball hitting the back of the net of a defender, making it 1-0. Shakhtar continued charging forward, this time Dentinho sent a free-kick high, with Marcos’s attempt being blocked by an opponent, with Matviienko’s header going just wide. Toward the close of the first half, the Kovalivka outfit snapped back one more time, with Shevchenko brilliantly saving Paramonov’s cannon attempt just under the crossbar.
Pikhalyonok assists, Sikan scores
Early in the second half, Anatolii Trubin, Bohdan Butko, and Viacheslav Tankovskyi took to the pitch, with Luis Castro's men continuing to play on top and create chances. To differ from the situation when the goalkeeper coped with a powerful shot by Oleksandr Pikhalyonok, then Danylo Sikan's attempt after an assist by the same Pikhalyonok hit the back of the net, making it 2-0. It was not easy for the Kolos players to put up any major resistance, with danger occurring solely in their own penalty area: Sitalo prevented Blanco Leschuk and Pikhalyonok from scoring, later saving the attempts by Tankovskyi and Fernando. The final whistle signalled Shakhtar’s confident 2-0 victory.
On July 20, the Miners will have another test match - vs Olimpik Donetsk. It kicks off at 18:00. The live stream will be exclusively available on shakhtar.com for the registered users.
