Shakhtar assistant manager Filipe Celikkaya reflects on his way in football, working with Luis Castro, and the will to win

- How did you get in football and how did your career develop?
- I played, but as an amateur, and then went to study at the Physical Education Faculty in Lisbon, starting my coaching back then. I initially headed the regional team and achieved some success with them, then I worked at the Benfica Academy. Some time later, I received an offer to move to the United Arab Emirates, where I started training Al-Ahli Dubai FC. Upon returning to Portugal, they invited me to Sporting: we participated in the UEFA Youth League and were champions of the country. At the same time, I was studying for a Master degree as a sports coach, received a license in Lisbon and went to study in the USA.

- Tell us about meeting Luis Castro.
- I gave lessons in Lisbon, in the Portuguese Football Federation, and they introduced me to Luis Castro. We immediately got a kind of connection, and when he moved to Chaves, he offered me to collaborate with him. By that time, I had been a professional coach and wanted to work in the Primeira League. We had a good season campaign at Chaves, and then Vitoria Guimaraes invited us, where we also had a successful year. So, this is my third season with Luis Castro.

- How did you react to the idea of moving to Shakhtar?
- This is a great opportunity to show our work, to fulfil our potential and, of course, to continue the successful journey of Shakhtar that the club has enjoyed in recent years. We want to claim victories and win titles.

- What are you responsible for as a member of Luis Castro’s coaching staff?
- The major objectives are to help him with daily work planning and during the sessions on the field, performing Luis Castro’s tasks, and also to align my observations with the video analysis data.

- The main question that the fans now ask is this: how will Shakhtar’s play change with the arrival of the new coach?
- Our ideas are not very different from how Shakhtar played before, but, of course, Mister wants to convey his personal style to the team. Therefore, there will be some changes - both in training and in the play.

- What would you like to achieve in the first season with the Miners?
- Shakhtar is the winner club, and the goals are clear: we want to claim victories, win trophies and advance as far as possible in the Champions League.

- What would you personally like to win?
- If we talk about club football, then my dream is to win the Champions League. I think this is the most important goal that any coach and player might have.

- This season, the coaching staff are facing the Champions League debut ...
- Yes, participation in the tournament will be a special moment for us, and we look forward to the Champions League campaign kickoff. But we also look forward to the games in the Championship and the Ukrainian Cup, which are no less important competitions. And the first thing we are focussed on is the Super Cup match. We are maximally tuned for it now.
