Karpaty manager Fabri Gonzalez commented on the meeting with Shakhtar in Kharkiv
- The deserved defeat, there’s nothing to justify. Shakhtar are a good team whose level is much higher. Perhaps, the league games for the Miners are like preparation for European competitions. Therefore, I believe that they don’t need anyone’s assistance. However, today, there have been some gentlemen who helped them. In no case do I explain our defeat by that - just many decisions, in my opinion, were not what they should have been. Shakhtar don’t need any help from outsiders in the games of this league.
- I want to thank you for the fact that you didn’t just park the bus. How much Shved’s absence affected it?
- You all know that Shved is one of the top scorers in the UPL. We arrived with four losses: Kuchynskyi, Papa Gueye, Shved and Klets. We were missing the latter in the defensive area. For us, those are four key figures, and their absence was palpable. We tried to display our football, to take off the opponents’ guard and to slow down the play, however, we stumbled upon an early goal that broke our plan. We tried to impose something, but Shakhtar were much better.
- You have worked in different leagues. How difficult is it in the UPL?
- Every competition has its own characteristic features. Here, football is more physical, direct play. In other countries, for example in Spain, other aspects come to the fore - ball control and a different level of tactical organization. I want to say that for us the premiership kicks off now, in the next home game against Mariupol. Then, we will have 10 games in the second stage: there, we must demonstrate that we can fight and know how to play. We need to raise the head after this kind of defeat - from a certain point of view, it is logical.
- Is your objective to top the second six sides or just not to be relegated?
- We will fight for showing ourselves in a better light. I want to repeat that right from this moment, our league campaign kicks off. We must be ready to fight back. We will try to restore the players who are out. Before the next round, we’ve got another loss - Hongla. That was an unfair sending-off, in fact, that’s what I meant before. The goal-scoring free-kick, in my opinion, was also invented. If there was a foul, then there were two penalties. Hence my words about the fact that Shakhtar do not need any help.
