The Miners played Zorya away in the Ukrainian U21 League round two closing game

Cipriano’s chance

To continue competing for a top-six spot, Zorya needed only a win today. From the opening minutes, the Luhansk team launched an all-out attack and managed to open the scoring early. In the 6th minute, Dmytro Topalov fouled near his own penalty area, with Semen Vovchenko beating Yevhen Kucherenko and scoring the opener. Almost immediately, the hosts managed to double the score. Nemanja Ivanovic raced into the penalty area from deep and gently lobbed it past the keeper only to see his effort hit the post. Halfway through the first half, Cipriano missed a great chance. The Brazilian sent a left-footer towards the far corner, but Khmelovskyi rescued his team. Shortly before the whistle for the break, Zorya scored another one. Danylo Alefirenko took advantage of the one-on-one situation. However, before that, the linesman raised a flag to register him offside, but, after consulting the referee Yurii Mozharovskyi, he cancelled his decision. The goal was confirmed – 2-0.

Missed opportunities

Shakhtar started the second half actively. Topalov and Kulakov could score goals, with the goalkeeper rescuing Zorya on both occasions. And in the 57th minute, the Miners’ defensive error led to the third goal. Ihor Reshetov delivered the ball to the far post, and Yehor Shalfeev headed the ball past Kucherenko, making it 3-0. Four minutes later, the visitors earned a spot-kick when Semen Vovchenko played handball in his own penalty area. Mozharovskyi pointed to the spot, with Yurii Mate coolly converting the spot-kick – 3-1. Before the final whistle, Valeriy Kryventsov’s lads had a few opportunities to reduce the gap, but the outcome on the scoreboard remained unchanged.
