FC Shakhtar has been taking part in the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks for three consecutive years now

The campaign enabling the European football community to tell fans about their social responsibility programmes, has been supported by the UEFA Foundation for Children, the European Club Association (ECA) and the European Football Development Network (EFDN) since 2017.

Special training session

March 21 is the World Down Syndrome Day. On this occasion, Shakhtar's training session in Sviatoshyno was held in a special atmosphere. Together with the players, it was attended by 25 children with disabilities, including 10 kids with Down’s syndrome and autism. We want to mention that these guys with disabilities play football on a permanent basis under the special programme for children with disabilities at the Academy A+ sports facility in Kyiv.

- I am engaged in football at the goalkeeper's position, and I like Andriy Pyatov in Shakhtar most of all, - Ivan Svyatenko told us. - I've long wanted to attend a training session of my favourite team. I’m really happy! Thanks to all the players.

The Miners did a few exercises with children, then they had a group photo taken for the kids to keep as a memento.

Maksym Malyshev, midfielder:

- We moved very well, almost like in training! Most importantly, the children have been running and rejoicing. Everyone has got some great emotions, the guys are happy, and we are happy to see that. I think it's equally important for us and the fans to be so close to one another. I am recalling myself being a child: I would’ve been absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to run like that together with the first team, to pass around and shoot on goal. This is a great event!

The mother of one of the session participants Yuliia Horilko shared her emotions:

- Attending Shakhtar’s training session is a significant event for us. This is the impetus for development and a big example because a sport is associated with health. We are grateful for the fact that Shakhtar Social has created a custom training programme for children with special needs. We attend the sessions on a weekly basis. And the events where the guys can interact directly with football players are also very important.
