Shakhtar manager Paulo Fonseca reflects on the league season’s final game, the contribution of experienced players and the prospects for young players
- Good evening. The game was special in its own way: we attacked all the time, but in the first half we had difficulty opening the opponents’ defence. Lviv dropped back and sealed off the zones, with all the players being beyond the ball line. It was very important to score the opener. After we managed to do so, the play got unlocked, two more goals followed, there could’ve been even more goals. And the opponents created no danger near our goal. Most importantly, Shakhtar have shown the ambition and completed the league season in the best way possible today.
- Stepanenko and Marlos strengthened the team after appearing on the pitch. Can we say that it’s difficult to find any substitutes for those players? Do the young footballers still need time for adaption?
- Please pay attention to the fact that they are still 18-19 years old. Of course, they need time! And, certainly, such performers as Marlos, with their attributes, as they say, make the difference. Nevertheless, the young guys are maturing and stepping it up more and more, from match to match their response is positive. At the moment, the most important thing for them is to play and accumulate experience.
