On May 4, Shakhtar thrashed Lviv in Kharkiv

Paulo Fonseca’s men played their 50th home game at the OSK Metalist and claimed a 5-0 win. In the first half, Alvaro netted an own goal; after the break, Wellington Nem, Serhii Bolbat, Viktor Kovalenko, and Alan Patrick got their names on the scoresheet.

A record set!

So, Shakhtar have set another all-time record of the club: 20 clean sheets in the 2018/19 Premier League season (18 wins, 2 draws). In the 2005/06 league campaign, with Mircea Lucescu at the helm, they secured 19 clean sheets (17, 2); in the last two seasons under Paulo Fonseca – 15 clean sheets in each season. It is important that the Orange-and-Blacks scored this record long before the 30th round, since in the 2005/06 season there were just as many games (now they have 32 rounds); and currently, they can only raise their own bar before the end of the competition.

Statistics

The Miners had a 60% possession, 92% of completed passes, 19 shots and 11 of them on target. Interestingly, on most occasions, corners were delivered by Taison (3), with Antonio, Nem, and Tete taking one each.

Taison on top

The Shakhtar captain was absolutely rightfully recognized as Man of the Match. Taison was a key performer in quick attacks - in the second half he provided 3 assists (for the first time this season). He is the absolute leader in the UPL for the number of assists (12). Aggregately, the Brazilian boasts 14 successful passes (plus 1 in the Ukrainian Cup and 1 in the Champions League).

Kovalenko’s experience

The Shakhtar Academy graduate Viktor Kovalenko made his 100th league appearance. The goal he scored is his 18th in the Premier League and 26th in all competitions.
Wellington Nem scored a goal in the second game in a row
Against Lviv clubs

The Orange-Blacks’ biggest victories this season have been vs Karpaty (6-1, 5-0) and vs Lviv (5-0). By the way, with the current coaching staff, this score has been registered for the 5th time: in previous years, Gent, Chornomorets and Zirka conceded five unanswered goals.

Brazilian match

12 Brazilians entered the field from the off, not taking into account the Ukrainian Moraes (5 at Shakhtar, 7 at Lviv), plus two more Brazilians appeared as sub players in each team.

Bondar’s debut

The 20-year-old Valerii Bondar made his first appearance for Shakhtar senior team. It is symbolic that the player debuted in his hometown of Kharkiv.

Step to the goal

5 rounds away from the league season end, Shakhtar are 9 points clear of the second-spot team. In the last 10 matches, the team of Paulo Fonseca have scored 22 goals, securing all clean sheets.
