The unbeaten run
The Serbs got off to a flying start and opened the scoring in the 9th minute - Tadic converted a spot-kick. After a quarter of an hour, Yarmolenko created a great scoring chance only to see his effort hit the post. Several attempts by the hosts were blocked. And in the 33rd minute, Yaremchuk finished off Tsyhankov’s great delivery, making it 1-1. Both the score and the general first-half stats implied the sides’ even play.
Early in the second half, Pyatov rescued his team from Ljajic’s insidious attempt close to the near post. However, in the 56th minute, the keeper could not to anything after Tadic delivered the ball to the edge of the goal area, with Mitrovic coolly receiving the ball and directing it home past the far corner. Shortly after that, Radonjic was close to finishing - Matviienko dispossessed him in the box through a sliding tackle. In the 87th minute, Shepelev had a chance to equalize, but the ball went high. The Ukrainians tied thanks to a goal by Besedin a few seconds away from the final whistle.
Thus, Ukraine completed their qualifying campaign - they got 20 points and suffered no defeats. Shakhtar players are returning to their club now. On November 22, they will host Lviv in Kharkiv.
