Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus took part in a press conference on the eve of the Champions League match vs Shakhtar

- Hi Gabriel, perhaps your manager said that Sergio Aguero may be out for a few games. How ready are you to step up if required?
- I’m not happy because Sergio is injured, of course. I don’t like it when my friends are injured but I work hard every day. I’m ready to play and show every time that I want to improve. So, yes – I’m ready.

- How difficult is it to sometimes be on the bench and to wait for your chance as a striker?
- At times it isn’t easy. But I want to play, work and improve my football. That’s why sometimes I don’t feel happy because I want to play. So, I keep on working.

- Your coach has repeatedly said that you are one of the best pressing forwards in the world. Do you think that’s your best attribute?
- Maybe yes. I’ve been playing like that from the very beginning. I can’t stop this because that’s my football, my personality, my special feature. I love running and helping my teammates. For me, it’s great.

- You are one of the most highly-rated young players in the world and chances are that in any other club you would play from the start all the time. Do you ever regret coming here or playing for this club, for Pep Guardiola? Is that compensation for not always starting games?
- When I decided to come to City, I knew it would be hard because we have Sergio, who is the top scorer in the club and scores every game. I know this. But I think I have a chance to play with Pep, with top players at the big club, so that’s why I came, to enjoy and learn.

- Recently, your compatriots from Shakhtar were targeted by the racist supporters in the Ukrainian league. Have you been in touch with them? Have you talked to Taison and Dentinho? What do you think about this situation?
- Yes, I’ve talked to both of them. This is no good. I can’t say what they think about this. Of course, they are not happy, just like any other individual when this happens.

- What did you learn playing and training with Sergio Aguero? And how much have you learnt from him?
- I learnt a lot. Like I said before, Sergio is a great guy and a top player. So I have to keep learning with him and the other players.

- It’s easy to forget, Gabriel, that you’re so young as you’ve now made over 150 career appearances for the club and country. How much more do you think there’s to come from you as a footballer. Do you think fans have not seen anything like the level that you potentially could get to this year?
- I want to improve my football. At every stage, every day, I want to improve – I’m learning. I train good, I'm working hard. So, I think I have to do it all the time because I am here, in a big club, with big players and a big manager. So, I have to work and improve as much as possible.
