We are summing up Dodo’s performance in the recent part of the 2019/20 season
The Brazilian who marked his 21st birthday in November, has been enjoying his first full season at Shakhtar. In 2018, he made his debut for the club making only 3 appearances, later being loaned out to the Portuguese Vitoria de Guimaraes then coached by Luis Castro.
UCL assists and left-hand side goals
Dodo performed really well in European competitions. So, in Milan, in his debut appearance vs Atalanta, he came on as a substitute in the very end and provided an assist for Solomon; and in the game vs Dinamo Zagreb in Kharkiv, the right lateral appeared on the field instead of Bolbat in the 66th minute and scored one in the 75th minute, with the scoring taking place after the Dodo and Ismaily switched flanks. But most interestingly, the same move worked a few days earlier in the Ukrainian Championship. Back then, in the match vs Kolos, the Brazilian scored his first goal for Shakhtar: he received the ball on the left-hand side, beat the defender and lobbed it past the goalkeeper. Plus, he provided another assist for Solomon in the Champions League - vs Man City in Manchester (1-1).
Defensive skills
Playing defensively, Dodo won 61.4% of challenges in all competitions (127 aggregately) and made 81 interceptions. In terms of the latter component, the February match vs Desna stands out (12 interceptions at an average of about 4). The footballer had 29% of his tackles and rebounds in the opposing half of the field. Curiously enough, the Brazilian never uses sliding tackles at all - he manages to do so through his pace, approaching his opponents, using his body and winning the ball.
