In the Europa League Round of 16, Shakhtar face the German side Wolfsburg

At the NSC Olimpiyskiy on August 5th, the Miners will host the opponents in the return leg at 19:55. The first leg in Germany took place on March 12th - Luis Castro's men claimed a 2-1 away victory.

The Orange-and-Blacks opened the scoring in the 17th minute: Ismaily delivered the ball which took deflection off Brooks’ leg and off the pitch surface, with Moraes heading it off into the back of the net. Shortly after that, Kovalenko could double the lead from the spot, but Casteels coped with his shot. Just before the break, the referee pointed to the spot opposite Shakhtar's goal only to see Weghorst slipping and sending it high.

The Germans levelled the score in the 48th minute: Brekalo delivered a corner, Brooks won an aerial challenge and sent the ball into the net. Nevertheless, Shakhtar were determined to take home the maximum result that evening. In the 73rd minute, Alan Patrick produced a perfect free-kick, Casteels turned the ball into the crossbar, with Marcos Antonio flicking it home to make it 2-1.
