On August 8, Shakhtar midfielder Taras Stepanenko marks his birthday
One of the leaders of the club and the national team of Ukraine turns 31 years old.
10 years at Shakhtar
Taras Stepanenko, а Zaporizhia football school graduate, joined Shakhtar in 2010. He debuted in Shakhtar’s striking Super Cup demolition job vs Tavriya Simferopol (7-1). During his first season with the club, Stepanenko not only won every trophy in Ukraine and made his Champions League debut, but also scored a goal against Partizan in Belgrade.
Midfield leader
From match to match, Taras became an increasingly important footballer for Shakhtar. The dedication to the favourite job, the hard work, the ability to soak up new information and the desire to constantly progress helped him grow into one of the strongest holding midfielders in Ukraine and the undisputed first-team and national team regular. Since the 2014/15 season, Stepanenko has been making 35 or more appearances for Shakhtar to consistently high standards per season. The 2016/17 season (41 apps) was record-setting for him in this sense.
Eight-time champion
This season, the team's vice-captain Taras Stepanenko has passed the mark of 300 appearances with Shakhtar (309). He scored goals in the league and Cup games against Dynamo. He also netted one at the crucial moment in the return leg vs Benfica, helping the Miners continue their Europa League journey. With the club, the midfielder has won 21 trophies: 8 league titles, 7 Cups and 6 Super Cups of Ukraine.
We wish the birthday boy good health, happiness, family bliss and well-being, as well as more appearances and titles with Shakhtar. Many happy returns of the day!
