In the first game after the winter break, Shakhtar U21 defeated their Desna counterparts 1-0 through a magnificent goal by Heorhii Sudakov and regained leadership in the standings, having displaced the Poltava side in the top spot. Now, the Miners have 41 points (goal difference of 36-14), being ahead of their eternal opponents Dynamo thanks to the head-to-head game advantage.
  
In Poltava, the team of Fernando Valente will not be helped by the injured Artem Kholod and Mykhailo Mudrik who will miss the meeting due to earning four yellow cards. Instead, Oleh Ocheretko will be back after serving a one-game suspension.
