Introducing the opponents
Proleter, just like Vojvodina, represent the city of Novi Sad. The Red-and-Whites finished the past season in the Serbian league in the eighth spot, just below their neighbours. Milic Curcic, who has headed the team since the summer and, in particular, who led the team in a friendly vs Shakhtar in July, did not stay at his post for long - in September, he resigned due to the side’s unsatisfactory performance. He was replaced by his assistant Branko Zigic, who had previously played for Proleter for 10 years as a central defender.
Currently, Proleter are sitting in the 12th spot in the Serbian SuperLiga with 5 wins, 5 draws and 10 defeats, conceding more goals than scoring (17-29). They are among the top six teams that use long balls more often, still having the poorest percentage of the shots on target. In central defence, they deploy the Serb Aleksandar Andrejevic and the Brazilian Leandro Pinto, Stefan Colovic operates as a right striker, along with major summer signings - the goalkeeper Nikola Petric, midfielder Lazar Marjanovic, and striker Milan Mirosavljev.
Another meeting six months later
In Austria on July 8, 2019, Shakhtar demolished Proleter 3-0. All the goals were scored in the second half: in the 63rd minute, Butko headed Cipriano’s delivery right home, then Patrick took advantage of Solomon's assist, with Kovalenko sealing the win from the penalty spot.
