We wish him a very Happy Birthday and invite you to recall the most significant moments of his career.
Miner’s heart
Henadiy Orbu was born into a family of miners. His father worked as a miner and was a passionate fan of the main team of Donbass. The would-be footballer also began his career at a mine in Makiivka, and after serving in the army he began playing for a local team called Bazhanovets. In the autumn of 1992, they invited him to Shakhtar.
Orbu immediately became a key player, performing at left-back for nearly a decade. In the first four seasons, he made 130 appearances for the Orange-and-Blacks, scoring 13 goals. During that period, the club achieved the first successes in its modern history: they won silver medals in the Championship (1993/94) and raised the Cup of Ukraine (1995).
Among the best
After a six-month spell at Rotor, in December 1996 Henadiy Orbu returned to Shakhtar and enjoyed the brightest period in his career. To begin with, he helped the club win the Ukrainian Cup again (1997), and the next season (1997/98) he made 39 appearances and scored 11 goals. The team again claimed silver medals in the Championship, with Orbu occupying the second position on the list of the country’s top footballers.
