Big-time football returned after the break of two and a half months

In the Premier League round 24, Shakhtar met with Dynamo and claimed a 3-1 victory over their eternal opponents at the NSC Olimpiyskiy.

100% vs Dynamo

This is the 20th victory of Luis Castro’s coaching staff in the Ukrainian Championship. Under his leadership, Shakhtar claimed 3 wins vs Dynamo in the domestic league. In all competitions, Castro’s team have already played 35 games.

We are writing history

In recent years, the Orange-and-Blacks have maximally reduced the gap between them and Dynamo in the head-to-head record: Shakhtar currently have 23 wins, 24 defeats and 17 draws at the goal difference of 76–79.

Marlos is an expert on Dynamo

Marlos (7) has made it past Andrii Vorobei, Luiz Adriano and Eduardo (6) for the number of goals scored vs Dynamo. Alex Teixeira is the only player to have scored the same number of goals vs the Kyiv side.
Junior Moraes provided assists to Marlos in two similar episodes

Statistics

In the reporting match, Shakhtar enjoyed the 59% possession, achieving higher passing accuracy (89% vs 81%). 4 out of 8 attempts were on target, with 3 of them ending in goals. The Kyiv outfit lost 6-0 in terms of offsides (all different players), netting one goal after avoiding an offside situation.

Taison brought the ball to the penalty area through the middle of the pitch, having beat Shepelev and Verbic, largely contributing to Shakhtar’s first goal that followed immediately after conceding the opener and enabling the Miners to turn it around
Good match for Taison

5 of Taison’s 7 dribbles were successful, he also won 11 of 19 challenges (58% vs the season’s average of 51%) and had the fewest ball losses this season (4), not counting the October thrashing of Kolos 6-0 (he netted 3 goals). It was he who brought the ball to the penalty area through the middle of the pitch, having beat Shepelev and Verbic, largely contributing to Shakhtar’s first goal that followed immediately after conceding the opener and enabling the Miners to turn it around.

Many substitutions

For the first time ever, the coaches had the opportunity to make 5 substitutions in the competitive game. Tete was about to take the pitch when a successful attack resulted in goal by Marlos, delaying the substitution for a few more minutes. Castro made a couple of double substitutions (Tete and Fernando, Konoplyanka and Solomon), and long before that, early in the second half, he fielded Marcos Antonio who was destined to seal the win (the Brazilian has scored 2 goals in his 2 recent appearances).
