Shakhtar goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin answered fans' questions live on the club’s Instagram
- Did you feel worried in your debut game with Shakhtar?
- I felt the excitement and tension before the match. And when I took the field, it faded away after I touched the ball for the first time. I didn’t want to make a mistake because it's nice to keep a clean sheet in your debut appearance. I felt no fear.
- Tell us about your way from starting training to your first-team debut.
- From what I remember and what my parents told me, at the age of 6 I came to the Academy branch, immediately stood between the sticks, spent some 2-3 months, after that I ended up in my age group (2001) at the Academy. It turns out that I’ve been 12 years at the club now.
- What do you expect from the match between Shakhtar and Dynamo?
- This is the Ukrainian Clasico. Well, with the fans it would be completely different - the atmosphere and passions. But still, I guess it will be a really intense and interesting match. This is our archrivalry.
- Does your tallness help you while playing?
- Of course, it does in some situations. But different players have different physiques, so everyone plays using their best attributes.
- What are the top 3 tips from Andriy Pyatov and Antonio Ferreira?
- Pyatov helps me a lot in training. Although I know English, at times it’s hard for me to explain a certain situation. While Andriy is vastly experienced, he tells me how to do it. And Antonio as well – we always analyze matches, getting explanations and advice.
- Is it hard to compete with the best goalkeeper in Ukraine? Are you ready to take his place in the future?
- Of course, it is. If I weren’t ready, then what’s the point in training and working? He should be a role model for you, and you should look at him and get better.
- Is there a conceded goal that you have dreams about?
- Nope. If you conceded it, you need to correct your mistakes and move on. Getting stuck on one mistake can drive you deep into a ditch, from which it will be very and very difficult to get out.
- Can you make the perfect goalkeeper using the goalkeeping skills of several keepers.
- I like Ter Stegen's footwork, the mental stability and confidence of Andriy Pyatov, the palm work of Alisson. Another great goalkeeper is Oblak. But in general, there are lots of them now, everyone has his own strengths, so it’s impossible to make up the perfect one.
- Were you tall for your age all the time or you grew tall over just a year or two?
- Compared to my peers, I have always been taller than them. The only issue I experienced was my weight after getting much taller during a certain period.
- How difficult is it for a young goalkeeper to lead the defensive third featuring some senior footballers?
- You need to feel confident. If the goalkeeper is confident and gives the players prompts, the whole team gains confidence. Sometimes it’s difficult, but in the match everyone forgets about their age. And they should get prompts at both 30 and 18 - it makes no difference.
- Why do you play under number 81?
- Because I was born on the 1st of August, the 8th month. Well, the number doesn’t play a major role at all.
- Should the goalkeeper often play as an outfield player and perform the role of another defender or it’s better to stay in the box?
- Current European and world football is such that the goalkeeper is just another outfield player. He should use his feet no worse than them, even better. Ball control is secured through the keeper these days.
- What are Trubin’s goalkeeping strengths and what needs to be improved?
- It's hard to talk about yourself. One needs to work on everything, because everyone has his weaknesses. There are some strengths as well, but if you stop working, you will just go round in circles. Everything needs to be improved in order to progress.
- What would you like to wish to our fans?
- First of all, be careful and follow all the rules. Be healthy. Have a little bit more patience: I’m sure that we will soon meet at the stadiums, we will continue to delight you with some great performance and with our victories.
