While football is on hold, we are recalling all of Shakhtar's title-winning seasons

The 2010/11 season went down in the club history as the first one with the Miners managing to claim a golden treble by winning the league title, the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.

Key transfers

Before the start of the season, Mircea Lucescu injected some new blood in the team. The club said goodbye to the long-standing leaders Igor Duljaj and Mariusz Lewandowski, with the young Ukrainians Sergii Kryvtsov and Taras Stepanenko replacing them. The return of of Dmytro Chygrynskyy from Barcelona, the move of the Croatian striker Eduardo da Silva from London-based Arsenal and signing up the Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan were major transfers.

Topping it continuously

The Miners got off to a flying start: they demolished Tavria in style (7-1) and raised the Ukrainian Super Cup.

In the championship, Shakhtar also showed their desire to repeat last year’s success. The major competitors immediately tried to compete with the Orange-and-Blacks, but then Mircea Lucescu's men successively defeated Metalist (2-1), Dynamo (2-0) and Dnipro (1-0), getting 5 points clear of the closest pursuers based on the first stage results.

The Miners confidently kept that advantage for the remainder of the season - for the first time in many years, there was no special plot in the title race.

Early title

They managed to officially win the title 2 rounds away from the season end. Having defeated the fellow citizens from Metalurh (2-0) at the Donbass Arena, Shakhtar secured their sixth Ukrainian league title. The Miners’ final score was 72 points (7 points clear of the second-spot side), along with the goal difference of 53-16.

The title celebration coincided with a grand show in honour of the club’s 75th anniversary, with the Ukrainian Cup final victory impressively rounding off the season. On May 25 in Sumy, thanks to the goals by Eduardo and Luiz Adriano, the Miners beat Dynamo (2-0) and got their first golden treble by winning all 3 Ukrainian trophies

Heroes of the season

Mircea Lucescu was again recognized as the Coach of the Season. The team built by the Romanian manager gained momentum and mined trophy after trophy, finally making Shakhtar the leaders in Ukrainian football.

Willian was named by UPL the Player of the League. By that time, the talented Brazilian midfielder had become the team’s major playmaker and backbone, making the most apps (28) among outfield players, also adding 8 assists to his 3 goals and becoming Shakhtar’s best assist provider.

We also want to highlight the consistently safe performance of Andriy Pyatov (29 league apps, including 16 clean sheets) and of Shakhtar’s entire defensive third. Another cool goal was produced by Darijo Srna (27 apps, 3 goals) and Yaroslav Rakitskyy (21 apps), with the latter being recognized by fans the Player of the Season.

The Brazilians remained the most prolific players: Luiz Adriano notched up 10 goals; Jadson, Alex Teixeira and Douglas Costa scored 5 each. The Bolivian Marcelo Moreno upset the rivals the same number of times. The newcomers Eduardo (6 goals in 22 apps), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (17 apps and 3 goals) and Taras Stepanenko (15 apps) also blended in with the team well.
It is fitting that on the 75th anniversary Shakhtar won all three trophies. Moreover, we successfully played in the Champions League, reaching the last 8 for the first time ever
Andriy Pyatov, Shakhtar goalkeeper in the 2010/11 season:

- Just inexpressible emotions! It's always nice to win the title, not to mention that tight competition! It is fitting that on the 75th anniversary Shakhtar won all three trophies. Moreover, we successfully played in the Champions League, reaching the last 8 for the first time ever. Perhaps it was our most successful season back then.
