Ukraine’s manager Andriy Shevchenko decided to extend the squad preparing for the UEFA Nations League game vs Switzerland
This is due to the fact that several players, including the Miner Viktor Kovalenko, have left the team due to testing positive for COVID-19.
Three Ukraine U21 players, including Shakhtar midfielder Heorhii Sudakov, have been invited to the country’s senior national team. This is the first Ukraine cap for the 18-year-old player. Sudakov will join the Blue-Yellows in Lucerne that hosts the game vs Switzerland this Tuesday.
“I learnt about the call-up when I was flying with Ukraine U21 from Malta. At the airport, the administrator came up to me and told me the news,” said Heorhii Sudakov in his interview to Shakhtar News. “I didn’t expect it, I was surprised and asked him ten more times about it as I had just debuted for Ukraine U21! The emotions were really positive, just beyond words. And upon my arrival, I learnt about the cap officially. The national team is every footballer's dream. And, for me, debuting or even being invited there is something incredible, the precious experience.”
Let us remind you that in the 2020/21 season Sudakov became the captain of Shakhtar U21 team, made his senior team debut in Shakhtar's Champions League match vs Real Madrid and scored his first goal for the club in the league match vs Mariupol.
