Shakhtar defeated Olimpik 2-0 in the league round 4
It is symbolic that Shakhtar’s 1,500th competitive victory was secured by the club academy graduates - Viktor Korniienko provided an assist and Viktor Kovalenko scored the decider. Junior Moraes extended the lead.
Clean sheet
Andriy Pyatov made his first appearance this league season and kept a clean sheet. Shakhtar's run of games with goals conceded was interrupted (vs Basel, Inter, Kolos, Dynamo, Zorya, Rukh). During the match, Olimpik took 4 shots on target. Kryvtsov and Matviienko won 8 out of 12 defensive challenges. The opponents’ best scorer is Shakhab –he won 1 of 7 attacking challenges and sent a header wide following a corner-kick.
Scoring rankings
Kovalenko is among the top 50 scorers in the entire Shakhtar history. Viktor has netted his 29th goal and currently shares the 47th spot on the list with the late 1960s Shakhtar forward Stanyslav Yevseyenko. We want to mention that Marlos already has 71 goals – he is just 7 goals away from the top 10 list, with Oleh Matveyev sitting bottom of it.
Moraes has scored his 54th goal and replaced Julius Aghahowa in the 18th position of the scorers list. Interestingly, Junior needed two times fewer apps than the Nigerian to score that number of goals (85 and 171, respectively). And Taison closes the top 20 list (53 goals).
Korniienko’s deserved recognition
Viktor Kornienko returned and appeared in the starting XI, delivering a great performance based around dedication and success rate. He was named Man of the Match. Shakhtar carried out most of their dangerous attacks through the left wing. Besides his assist, Korniienko provided two passes and earned a spot-kick in the first half. He boasts a greatest number of touches in the opposing box (5 along with Moraes), rebounds (11) and interceptions (6).
Shakhtar pressing
Compared to last year’s post-quarantine period (May through August), this season Shakhtar have been pressing more intensely. Their average PPDA in the game against Olimpik is 7.61. For example, Zorya had the same figure in the recent encounter with the Miners (2-2). While in the derby, Castro's players dominated possession, actively pressing the opponents throughout the first half while losing the ball (6.71). In the second half, the figure dropped sharply after Shakhtar netted two goals and increased again in the end.
With minimum interval
Olimpik managed to complete 6 passes after conceding the first goal, losing it and conceding the second one. Maycon played on the rebound and provided a quality assist to Junior Moraes.
Moraes vs Olimpik
Under Luis Castro, Shakhtar beat Olimpik in all three matches with a total goal difference of 9-0 (4-0, 3-0, 2-0). In total, the teams had 15 league meetings, with the Miners suffering zero defeats. And Moraes made Olimpik the Miners’ favourite opponents by scoring his 9th goal for Shakhtar in the game.
