In the run-up to the New Year, Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin gave an extensive interview to Shakhtar TV in which he commented on the move of the scouting department head Jose Boto to PAOK and told about the start of the search for a new head scout for the club
- Mr Palkin, why did Jose Boto leave and how would you rate his work?
- We can say that he goes for promotion. At PAOK, they offered him a sporting director role, he will be fully in charge of the transfer policy, the activities of the first team. He has long dreamed about it and thought about it. This is a step forward in terms of the responsibility he will have at the new club. I was against this move, but Jose Boto himself wants it, plus there is a buyout clause in his contract. PAOK paid a fairly serious amount, so in this case I was powerless to stop any processes. I just want to wish Boto every success, good luck, the best of luck. We've spent some great years together. Virtually every player acquired with Boto's participation is playing now. The only exception is Cipriano, but we signed him up as a free agent, so he’s currently on loan at Sion. At the same time, he is a major ‘fighting unit’ for the Swiss club and has a constant playing practice. All other players are our regulars and play for Shakhtar. Boto has done a great job, but it’s clear that there are no limits to perfection and there is room for improvement, but that's another story.
- Are you planning to find someone to replace him?
- We are now dealing with this matter, we launched the process and are looking for a new chief scout. But since it happened just a few days ago, I think that in two or three weeks there will be some progress.
- Are there any candidates?
- Yes, but it’s too early to name them. If I say and then it doesn't work, the fans will say that I have given them some empty promises.
