Shakhtar defender Valerii Bondar answered reporters' questions at a press conference dedicated to the UCL match against Sheriff
- Were the defeats in matches against Inter and Real, as well as in the first leg against Sheriff, logical? What needs to be done tomorrow to avoid repeating the mistakes?
- If we analyze all our matches, our team have deserved more than we’ve got at the moment. I think an example would be the games against Real Madrid away and against Inter at home in which we could claim more points than we have managed to. I think tomorrow we should display some good, beautiful and attacking football that translates into goals and, of course, not concede such goals as we did in the second half in Tiraspol. We need to play safely at the back and convert our chances.
- Is it more difficult in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Inter or against Sheriff where they demand the result from the team and whose quality of play is different?
- If you have noticed, we tried to showcase our football against Sheriff, and against Inter, and against Real Madrid both at home and away. There are no weak teams in the Champions League. Tomorrow we’ll have an important encounter, and it doesn't matter if we face Inter or Sheriff, it will be tough. We will be challenged by the team who held this Champions League campaign decently.
- For half a year now, Shakhtar have been playing with Roberto De Zerbi at the helm. What is it like to work under his leadership?
- Good question. Working with Mister is great! He brings new ideas, and we try to fulfil them on the football pitch. The mentality and emotions that he gives in training and in games pass onto us on the field, we always feel his support. It gives you strength when you see that your coach is always on fire, standing on the sidelines, managing the team.
- Usually a pre-match press conference features the player who later appears in the starting lineup for sure. Who would you like to see as your centre-back teammates tomorrow?
- To be honest, this is the first time I've heard about that kind of tradition and I can't know tomorrow’s lineup. If I appear in the starting lineup, then playing with any of my teammates will be comfortable, that’s no problem.
