Shakhtar midfielder Viktor Kovalenko will continue his career in Italy
The 24-year-old has signed a deal with Bergamo-based Atalanta.
Golden graduate
Viktor Kovalenko is a graduate of the FC Shakhtar Academy. He passed all stages and was a leader of the U19 team who played in the UEFA Youth League decider back in 2015. In particular, he scored goals in the semi-finals and the final. The same year, he also took part in the FIFA U20 World Cup with Ukraine U20. Viktor netted five goals and became the top scorer of the tournament, being awarded the Golden Boot.
A top-50 spot and 10 trophies with Shakhtar
Kovalenko debuted for Shakhtar senior team in the 2014/15 season, becoming its regular the very next year. All in all, Viktor made exactly 200 competitive appearances with the Miners in all competitions (his milestone appearance was vs Inter in Italy) and scored 32 goals (he is one of the top 50 goal scorers in the club's history). Together with the team, he secured 10 trophies: four league titles and four domestic Cups, along with two Super Cups of Ukraine.
