Shakhtar's first training camp in Belek is reaching the home straight
A match less
On January 25, the Miners’ third friendly was cancelled due to the fact that several players of the Slovenian Maribor had tested positive for COVID-19. In this regard, the coaching staff adjusted today’s schedule by planning two training sessions.
Before the session, Luis Castro gathered the players together, told them about the cancellation of the friendly and urged them to observe every precaution and protection measure. The head coach reminded them that the season would resume shortly, so it is crucial for every player to be in the ranks and train continuously in order to become the champions of Ukraine.
“There are a few positive cases at Maribor. Both sides wanted to cancel the game. They made this decision for safety reasons, and that’s right. No one’s going to risk it during the winter break. In the course of the training camp, we have coronavirus tests once in four days,'' the head of Shakhtar medical department Artur Hlushchenko told us.
An hour in the rain
On Monday morning, the team, just like yesterday, trained in the rain. The session lasted exactly one hour. The footballers practised set pieces and attacking phase playing drills.
“I really enjoy training in the rain, it's good weather for me,” says David Khocholava. “The whole team is working hard, we are gaining momentum in physical terms. At the moment, I would rate my current fitness at seven or eight on a 10-point scale. I guess we’ll rediscover our top form by the end of the second training camp just before the competitive fixtures.”
We want to point out that Yevhen Konoplyanka, Viktor Kovalenko and Bohdan Viunnyk have worked separately from the general group today, while the goalkeeper Oleksii Shevchenko, on the contrary, has already joined the rest of the players.
