Shakhtar took on Schalke 04 in the final friendly on the Austrian training camp

In this friendly match, Roberto De Zerbi fielded the maximum number of players, deploying virtually different line-ups either side of the half-time break. Early in the game, the Brazilians Vitao and Marlon made up a pairing of central defenders, Dodo and Korniienko appeared as fullbacks, Maycon and Marcos played in the holding area, with Pedrinho, Solomon, Patrick and Traore being responsible for attacking.

Tight fighting

The Miners began the duel with creating two dangerous chances in a row: Pedrinho brought Solomon through on target, but the goalkeeper coped with Manor's effort, and a few moments later the Brazilian himself was shooting, with Fahrmann showing great reflexes. In the 13th minute, the Miners managed to hit the back of the net only for the referee to disallow Traore’s goal due to the latter’s offside position. The Germans responded with attempts by Ouwejan (Trubin came to the rescue) and Terodde (inches off the bar). Most of the first half saw positional face-off in midfield, but in the dying five minutes the Donetsk side had several opportunities to open the scoring. Initially Traore failed to reach Solomon's cross by mere inches, and then Pedrinho clinically hit the top corner, but the ball whizzed just inches off the crosspiece.

With no goals scored

At half-time, De Zerbi changed most of the line-up, with the second half starting with some end-to-end stuff, with none of the teams succeeding in bringing the matter to some scoring chances. Tete, Mudryk and Sudakov actively joined in the action - they did not hesitate to take the initiative and tried to threaten the Gelsenkirchen goal by their individual play. Towards the end of the match, the opponents switched to crossing it into each other’s boxes, but the defenders and both goalkeepers operated reliably, without giving each other any scoring chances. As a result, the match ended 0-0.

Shakhtar completed their Austrian training camp and as early as this Saturday, July 10, they plans to return to Ukraine to continue preparing for the new season.
