On June 14, Shakhtar returned from vacation and started working under the new coaching staff
On Monday morning, some of the players underwent a mandatory medical examination. A similar procedure awaits the second group on Tuesday.
"The vacation passed well. I had enough time to stay with my family in my home country. It’s important to rest and refresh the thoughts after a tough season in which we failed to fulfil the objective," said Shakhtar defender Vitao. "I am missing all the guys! We are determined to work. I’m sure we will have some great victories. Now it’s important to get acquainted with the new coach, to understand his ideas and vision of football."
De Zerbi has 31 footballers at his disposal now
Shakhtar started training in the absence of the Ukraine national team players and a number of injured players. We would like to mark on the list the team newcomer Pedrinho, last season’s loaned players Konoplya, Mampassi, Tankovskyi, Ocheretko, Sikan, Valerii and Artem Bondarenko, along with several Academy lads.
Goalkeepers: Oleksii Shevchenko, Yevhen Hrytsenko, Tymur Puzankov, Denys Tvardovskyi
Defenders: Dodo, Yukhym Konoplya, Vitao, Valerii Bondarenko, David Khocholava, Ismaily, Viktor Korniienko, Dmytro Kapinus, Mark Mampassi, Danyil Udod, Andrii Buleza
Midfielders: Maycon, Marcos Antonio, Artem Bondarenko, Alan Patrick, Viacheslav Tankovskyi, Tete, Oleh Ocheretko, Manor Solomon, Mykhailo Mudryk, Fernando, Dentinho, Pedrinho, Denys Shostak, Artur Mykytyshyn
Forwards: Bohdan Viunnyk, Danyil Sikan
27 outfield players in 3 groups
At 16:00, Roberto De Zerbi gathered the players at a suburban complex in Sviatoshyno. He introduced his coaching staff to the team and briefly talked about the initial stage of preparation before leaving for the Austrian training camp.
For 30 minutes the players worked out in the gym, taking to the pitch later. The training session lasted an hour. After the warm-up and squares, the goalkeepers started training based on their programme, with the outfield players being divided into three more groups - they did various running and playing exercises. The intensity on the first day was not high as it is necessary for the team to pick up form gradually.
From June 16 the Miners plan to train twice a day, and on June 22nd they will fly to the training camp in Austria where, in addition to training sessions, they will have four test games vs the rivals from Austria, Poland and Germany.
