Roman Zaiev has been appointed head coach of Shakhtar women's team

The 52-year-old specialist will train the newly-formed team for the start of the 2021/22 Ukrainian Championship first league.

"This is a big challenge and a credit for me because FC Shakhtar is the flagship of Ukrainian football. It’s very honourable to be a member of this family," - Roman Zaiev pointed out. "Shakhtar is the most ambitious club, regardless of whether it’s women’s or men’s team. We are facing the maximum objectives, and we will try to fulfil them. Hopefully, the attention the club gives us will help us form an efficient team."

Roman Zaiev

Born on January 1, 1969 in the village of Torchytsia, Kyiv Oblast. He played for Dynamo Bila Tserkva, Bazhanovets Makiivka, Zorya Luhansk, Veres Rivne, Shakhtar Stakhanov, Obolon Kyiv.

Roman worked as a head coach of the Ukraine women's U17 team. In recent years, he coached the top-flight sides Yednist’-ShVSM (Plysky) and Skhid (Stara Mayachka). In 2019 and 2020, Mr Zaiev received Ukraine’s Football Stars awards in the Best Coach of Women's Teams category.
