The Ukraine national team have played the second game in a row with three central defenders: one of them was the Miner Mykola Matviienko. In general, after the encounter with France, the Yellow-Blues’ head coach made three changes in the starting lineup by fielding the fresh Sobol, Makarenko and Zubkov.
In the first half, the hosts had several good approaches to the opposing goal: Zubkov headed Malynovskyi’s delivery just next to the post, with Zinchenko producing a couple of dangerous attempts. After the break, the Ukrainians continued to attack positionally, but it took them quite a long while to through the Finnish defence.
During the second half, Marlos, Junior Moraes and Atalanta midfielder Viktor Kovalenko came on as substitutes alternately. And in the 80th minute, Ukraine finally sent one past Joronen: Malynovskyi fed Karavaiev, Oleksandr produced a great cross, and Moraes was the first on the ball to fire it home. The Finns responded with three dangerous chances at once (all attempts went wide), and then scored one from the spot: Mykolenko had to foul after erring, Pukki converted his spot-kick to make it 1-1. Already in stoppage time, Moraes received the ball from Malynovskyi, adjusted the ball and made an attempt just for the goalkeeper to stop it.
