In the Premier League round 15, Shakhtar hosted Lviv-based Rukh at the NSC Olimpiyskiy

In the first game after the international break, Roberto De Zerbi fielded a centre-back pairing Bondar and Matviienko in the starting lineup, put the Brazilians Maycon and Marcos Antonio in the holding area, and entrusting the young Mudryk and Tete with wide strikers’ roles. He also gave a place just behind the striker to the experienced Marlos who led the team to the pitch with the captain's armband on. This match is the 300th in the head coach’s career.

Goalless lead

From the first minutes, the Miners dominated possession and won the space, forcing nearly the entire team of the visitors to retreat into their own penalty area. Mykhailo Mudryk was active early in the game, trying to threaten on the left-hand side which did not lead to any scoring chances. Fernando had a scoring chance midway through the first half, but he failed to flick home Dodo's cross after missing the ball by inches. Tete’s attempt to take an overhead kick was spectacular, but Pankiv controlled the situation. The goalkeeper of Rukh also stopped Matviienko’s header, and Fernando, after trapping Mudryk's pass, once again sent the ball wide of the mark. As a result, Shakhtar bossed the game but the score remained 0-0.

Final attempt

Early in the second half, Mudryk was noticeable again: first, Stamenkovic interrupted his delivery to Fernando, and then the goalkeeper rescued the visitors after Mykhailo’s effort. De Zerbi freshened up the team's attacking with a triple substitution, fielding Solomon, Sikan and the recovered Pedrinho. Shakhtar continued making all-out attempts, with Pankiv making another save by stopping Tete’s powerful left-footed effort. The Lviv side responded with a rare counterattack, but Bondar made a well-timed sliding tackle. Closer to the final whistle, the hosts’ pressure rose, and the dying minutes turned into a real assault that bore fruit. To differ from Solomon's attempt from the edge of the penalty area that just shattered the woodwork, in the 86th minute Marcos Antonio’s long-ranger hit the top corner, making it 1-0! A couple of minutes later, Marcos provided an assist, and Tete easily outplayed the keeper one on one.

2-0 – Shakhtar secured a win in the match against Rukh and started preparing for the UEFA Champions League group stage decider. On Wednesday November 24, Roberto De Zerbi's team will take on Inter Milan away. The game kicks off at 19:45.
