Shakhtar U19 suffered a narrow away defeat at the hands of their Real Madrid counterparts
Compared to the first leg against Real Madrid, there was one change in the Shakhtar squad: Bako played as a winger instead of Veklenko.
Goalless half
The opening stages of the game saw the sides competing tightly and not creating many scoring opportunities. Real Madrid’s performance can be remembered only for Aranda's attempt, with the Miners responding with Siheev's shot, but the goalkeepers coped with all those efforts. Midway through the first half, the opponents exchanged chances again: the first one was produced by Aranda and denied by Puzankov; on the second occasion, Ivan Losenko could have scored from an advantageous position but for sending the ball wide. In the 34th minute, Madrid wasted their best chance: Aranda found himself one on one with the goalkeeper and fired it just inches off the post. The teams left for the break without scoring an opener.
Narrow defeat
Ratulutra's lads started the second half without any substitutions. Shakhtar were active from the first minutes, but it was Real who produced the first dangerous chance – Peter's bent attempt missed the top corner by mere inches. And in the 58th minute, the hosts opened the scoring: the active Aranda dribbled down the centre and unleashed an accurate mid-range effort that ended in a goal. In the very next attack, Buleza could have put his name on the scoresheet in response if his tight-angle shot had not went high. Late in the meeting, Shakhtar pressed their opponents against their own goal and had a few chances, with the best of them being created by Pliushch when Roman’s free-kick hit the wall from a great position.
In the 5th round of the UEFA Youth League group stage, the Miners will play Inter away on November 24. Their next league match will also take place away on November 7 against Kolos Kovalivka.
