In an interview with Shakhtar TV, the team’s head coach Roberto De Zerbi spoke about low effectiveness in the first half of the game vs Chornomorets, young footballers, honour, progress and Pedrinho’s injury
- Roberto, we saw two different halves. In the first one Shakhtar dominated, but failed to score, Chornomorets defended pretty well. In the second one, you also dominated, but scored three goals. What do you make of the team's performance?
- We could have played more effectively in the first half. We can’t score the first goal in the second half - we must do it well in advance. Tete, Marcos, Sudakov are very young, Fernando, Solomon, Korniienko and Konoplia are also born in 1999. It's okay that they don't have 100% football passion to win yet, although they do have tremendous talent. We must all improve together. Maybe this is one of our weaknesses that needs to be fixed. We showcased good football in both the first and second halves.
- Tete took part in two goals: first he provided an assist to Fernando, then he sent a magnificent pass to Ismaily who extended it to Marcos Antonio. How would you rate Tete's play and the attacking performance in the second half in general?
- Tete is a football player whom I consider to be key. However, I want him to play every match that way. My goal is to win any game and raise trophies, plus to improve all players individually, especially the young ones. Therefore, Tete should not think that he is doing enough. He must try to be key in every match. If he continues working like that, I will be another big friend of his. But if it develops otherwise ... Playing at Shakhtar should be a great honour for all the players, for the coach. We all must defend this club together.
- How did the substitutions affect the course of the game, according to you?
- Dodo and Ismaily played very well, although this does not mean that Konoplia and Korniienko did poorly. But, of course, the level of that situation is different.
- Please tell us about the staffing situation. What problems do the team have before the games against Desna and Real Madrid?
- The general group will again include Stepanenko, Matviienko and Bondar. Pedrinho will be out for three weeks. We try to play in the best way possible even without Pedrinho and Traore – for us they are the key players whom we bought within the transfer window. Unfortunately, they will be missing, but our team is strong enough to find other playing options.
