Shakhtar Academy teams are ready for the start of the season

Shakhtar U14

The only Academy team that underwent some personnel changes after last season: instead of Dmytro Yefymov became the head coach instead of Vitalii Vitsenets with whom the team had confidently won the league title. The team had the pre-season preparation in the form of friendlies against Kyiv-based CYSS 26 (0-0) and Chernihiv-based Desna (6-0), the Miners also took part in the Persha Stolytsia tournament, claiming the third spot there.

Shakhtar U15

Last season, in the penalty shootout, Oleksandr Maksymov’s boys did not manage to make it to the final and took just the third place. With the same coach before the new season, the team featuring the players born in 2007, had two friendly matches against more experienced opponents: Lokomotiv (born 2004, 3-2 win) and CYSS 26 (born in 2006, 2-2 draw). Then Shakhtar won the VII Tournament in honour of A. Havasha in Uzhhorod, with Maksymov's players not losing a single point in five matches (with a total goal difference of 30-3). Illia Vykhryschuk, Mykyta Kryvtsov, Artem Stepanov and Bohdan Olichenko were handed personal awards.

Shakhtar U16

Volodymyr Samborskyi’s team finished the 2020/21 season in the fourth spot, but in preparation for the new league campaign, Shakhtar have displayed great play: in friendly matches, they claimed victories vs Lyubomyr U19 (2-1) and Darnytsia-2004 (5-2). Basides, the Miners gained the upper hand in the Carpathian Legends Cup (5 clean sheets in 5 meetings), with all the rivals being one year older).

Shakhtar U17

Oleksandr Sytnyk's Shakhtar finished last season with winning gold medals and prepared for the new league season through friendlies against Borysfen-Yednist, Lyubomyr U19 and two matches against Pelikan (3 wins and 1 defeat). The Miners took part and became the winners of the VII Tournament in honour of A. Havasha, with Vladyslav Kravets, Danyil Krevsun and Maksym Derkach receiving individual awards. In addition, Vladyslav Kravets, Maksym Derkach and Yevhen Yanovych were called up to the Ukraine U17 team.

Oleksandr Sytnyk, Shakhtar U17 head coach:

“I think we are well prepared for the season. The guys had just few injuries, so we are approaching the official games in an excellent mood. In addition, we participated in a tournament during our preparation, playing against quality Ukrainian and foreign opponents. We managed to win, which is also very important because at this age we need to see the positive results of our work. I would like to note that we beat Dynamo in the final and that the players of this very age have not been able to defeat the Kyiv team in decisive matches for several years. I think it will help us a lot mentally. Everyone understands that in the last league campaign, these guys did not perform as they wanted, so the mood will be great. I, just like them, want to win, so I motivate the guys and explain to them that at Shakhtar they cannot have any other options except winning.”

In the new season, all home matches of the Academy teams will be streamed live.

Already on September 4, at 12:00 and 14:30, Shakhtar will face the CYSS FA (Ternopil) in the U17 and U15 age groups. Watch both matches on the club’s official YouTube channel. Shakhtar U14 and U16 will also play their games, away though.
