Shakhtar midfielder Heorhii Sudakov spoke about the birth of his daughter, Shakhtar's initiative, his call-up to the national team, Ukraine’s chances in the World Cup qualifying stage, and the players' current motivation
- Congratulations on your new status of a father. Despite the birth of your daughter, you joined Shakhtar a few days ago. How did the guys receive you, did the team congratulate you?
- Everyone congratulated me on the birth of my daughter. Of course, as always, everyone received me really well. It's been two months since we saw each other, and I already miss everyone. Although with some guys – Mykhailo Mudryk, Artem Bondarenko, and Anatolii Trubin – we played in the tournament in Lviv. I haven't seen many others for a long while and was missing them. I was looking forward to the moment to start training and games.
- What can you say about Shakhtar's initiative to hold charity matches?
- I think this is a plus for the whole of Ukraine, both for the players and the fans. At this time, this is how we can help our people and our fans.
- You recently received a call to the national team of Ukraine. What does it mean to you at this difficult time?
- I’m very happy and will prove that I’m ready to take part in the World Cup qualifier vs Scotland. This is a new challenge for me.
- How did you find out about this call-up, who told you?
- Initially, Darijo Srna told me that, and then the head coach of the national team called me.
- Is the upcoming match of the national team more important than all the other matches now?
- Absolutely! Some people support the clubs, while the whole country supports the national team. Even people who have nothing to do with football and never watch it will follow and support the national team.
- What are the chances to make it past Scotland?
- Everything will depend on the preparation, but the chances are equal. Scotland is a good team, but we also have a good team. There will be preparation, all the guys will be really motivated, so I think the game will be interesting.
- What will give you special motivation in those matches?
- The things happening in our country give us an additional motivation to represent Ukraine so that people know us. It’s also important to draw attention to the events in Ukraine and show how strong we are.
- What would you like to say to all Ukrainians?
- I’d like to express my support, to wish everyone peace and to stick together.
