An outstanding Shakhtar player Viktor Zvyagintsev passed away at the age of 72
Viktor Zvyagintsev is a representative of Donetsk football school. He was the USSR Youth Champion (1968), and since 1970 Vktor played for Shakhtar senior team, winning the Best Debutant prize in the very first season. In just eight seasons, Mr Zvyagintsev made 175 appearances for Shakhtar, won the USSR Cup (1980) and two silver medals in the USSR Championship (1975, 1979). The defender was included in the Footballers of the Season list on three occasions, he also won the Olympic Games bronze with the USSR national team (1976).
After completing his player career, Viktor Zvyagintsev worked as a football referee and officiated 279 matches in this capacity. In 1994, he took charge of the Football Federation of the city of Donetsk.
