FC Shakhtar Director of Football Darijo Srna gave a comment to the Ukrayina 24 TV channel
Darijo Srna spoke about the current situation in the club, the team’s immediate plans and the scheduled charity tour to help the Ukrainians.
- Please tell us about Shakhtar's plans to hold a series of charity matches.
- Today the situation is such that UEFA gave us the green light to hold a very large number of friendly games in Europe, and on that basis our Ukrainian footballers received permission to go abroad. They will be able to leave in three days. Meanwhile, we will immediately, together with the coaching staff and all Ukrainian players, go to Istanbul. Unfortunately, many Brazilian players won’t be present there as most of them refuse to participate. Perhaps, only Marlon and Ismaily will arrive. We start playing in Turkey: on April 13 we are meeting with Besiktas, on April 19 with Fenerbahce, then with Sevilla, Haiduk Split, PSG, Lazio.
All the money we earn from these matches will be sent to Ukraine to help Ukrainians and children. Presently, this is the most important thing we can do to help. As the president of our club Rinat Akhmetov said, "the time will come when we will rebuild Ukraine and invest all our ability and means so that Ukraine recovers and becomes a strong and prosperous country." I fully agree with this and am also sure that it will be so.
