SCM, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and FC Shakhtar granted UAH 3 billion to support Ukraine

Rinat Akhmetov continues to provide full support for Ukraine and Ukrainians during the war against Russia. SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and FC Shakhtar have granted UAH 3 billion or about USD 100 million to help the country, military and civilians from February 24 to August 1. The aid has already reached over 11 million people throughout the country.

Support of civilians, especially in frontline zone, vulnerable population categories, internally displaced persons is one of the priority directions of aid. Food products, primary necessities (clothes, household items etc.), drugs, all these things are systematically given to people in situ. Directions and amounts of the aid are determined in coordination with central and local authorities to ensure the maximum efficiency. Also care is taking of shelters and asylums, bomb shelters and cover positions, hospitals, sources of light and water for population in the host cities of the companies. Support of local administrations, community services is also provided: from fuel to personal protection equipment for personnel.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has already provided the Ukrainian citizens with more than 600 thousand units of medicine and almost 60 thousand blood bags. Also food packages are constantly given to the citizens of Ukraine. Their total number will be 400 thousand. The Foundation became a partner of the support center of internally displaced persons I Am Mariupol and systematically helps the internally displaced persons from Maria's City. Also the Foundation is engaged in creation of content for the Museum of Civilian Voices that is the largest archive of testimonies of Ukrainians on the events of war against Russia. Almost 30 thousand stories of people suffered from actions of the occupiers have been gathered already.

DTEK and Ukrtelecom continue to support work of critical infrastructure of the country where it is possible. Electricity supply, mobile and fixed communication, as well as Internet were brought back for millions of people, thousands of establishments and companies since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Work is performed 24/7 including in frontline zones. Telecommunication services are available for 87% of settlements in Ukraine serviced by Ukrtelecom (except for Luhansk and Kherson regions) due to dedicated work of the specialists. Since the beginning of war, DTEK power engineering specialists restored electricity supply to more than 3.1 million houses left without electricity because of shelling.

Saving Lives initiative carried out by Metinvest and DTEK businesses with coordination of the International Donor Foundation is another important humanitarian project of Rinat Akhmetov. Thousand tons of humanitarian aid (food packages, drugs and medical products) are transferred to frontline cities and settlements from Europe with its help. Almost 142 thousand people, especially from vulnerable categories, have already received the first packages of essential products from the initiative. A strategic product reserve is created in the pivotal cities in case of situation escalation.

Efforts are made to help the evacuated colleagues to get back to a normal life, in particular, settling, creation of courses for personnel re-qualification, opening of new work places. Thousands of internally displaced persons already had new jobs in SCM businesses.

FC Shakhtar also implements numerous humanitarian projects. The club’s Shelter Centre that has been accepting the internally displaced persons from frontline regions since the spring continues to work at Arena Lviv. Support is also provided to sport centers and organizations of Ukraine including our Olympic athletes, force units. In July, the club continued a series of charity matches Shakhtar Global Tour for Peace in Ukraine started in the spring. Proceeds from the sale of tickets and advertising are used to help the defenders of Ukraine, volunteer organizations, medical personnel and children affected by the war. Such friendly matches and partner commercial projects made it possible to collect more than UAH 25 million. Also Shakhtar Social Foundation initiative allowed organization of collection and delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine for 14 European football clubs. Rinat Akhmetov, as a president of the club, made a decision regarding provision of financial help to football clubs and children’s football project as well in amount of UAH 60 million.

Very important direction is still a support of our defenders. The Armed Forced of Ukraine, National Police and other force units regularly receive ammunition, vehicles, drones, special technical equipment (night vision systems, mekometers, cameras, etc.), fortifications, clothes and footwear, first-aid kits, tourniquets, portable radiostations, fuel and other necessary things and devices from SCM businesses. Thus, Metinvest gave 100 cars and 150 drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in July. DTEK VDE equipped one of the military units of the South of Ukraine with stand-alone power supply and heating system powered by solar electricity. FC Shakhtar gave 750 helmets and 1,500 first-aid kits to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Our large system projects are continued as well. Thus, Metinvest gave hard armor plates to the military on a cost-free basis and Metinvest-SMTs provides metal for production of fortifications (more than a half of anti-tank hedgehogs in Ukraine is made of this metal). Zaporizhstal gives hundreds and thousands of armor vests to our defenders every week. Also the Group in cooperation with Ukrtransgaz began production of rolling kitchens, engineer combat hooks and other necessary military equipment.

As was said earlier by Rinat Akhmetov, he granted EUR 100 million to help the country in this war, and it was done. And provision of aid continues.
