Roma vs Shakhtar charity match took place in Rome on Sunday, August 7.

Match was played at the filled Stadio Olimpico with 70 thousand seats as a part of the Shakhtar Global Tour for Peace in Ukraine. Proceeds from the sale of tickets and advertising will be used to purchase everything necessary for the defenders of Ukraine and civilians, who needs help.

The teams were led onto the pitch by Ukrainian refugee children. Shakhtar players came on with Ukrainian flags wearing shirts featuring the names of hero cities suffered from Russian military aggression. Also name of the new humanitarian project Pitch In For Ukraine launched today by FC Shakhtar and UNITED24 platform appeared on the kits. Shirts of Roma players had blue-yellow hearts.

Igor Jovicevic decided to use a scheme with three central defenders. Valerii Bondar, Sergii Kryvtsov and Mykola Matviienko were in the starting lineup. Yukhym Konoplia and Bohdan Mykhailichenko took fullback positions, Neven Djurasek and Heorhii Sudakov occupied the field center and Vladyslav Vakula, Mykhailo Mudryk and Andrii Kulakov were responsible for attack.

Domination of the hosts

The Miners tried to be in no way inferior to the Italian Grand from the starting minutes and created a danger near the rival goal: at first, Mudryk burst to lose three opponents, but his delivery to the far post happened to be a little bit inaccurate. Then Djurasek tested Rui Patricio with a long-ranger. The Romans made a series of dangerous attacks from their side scoring as the result. Pellegrini played a combination with his partners in the 19th minute, burst into the penalty area and shot under the crossbar making it 1-0. Sudakov had the chance to respond almost at once, but his attempt ended just above the target. Anatolii Trubin saved the Miners in the middle of half-time by winning one-no-one situation against Zaniolo. Another save was made by goalkeeper after Dybala’s treacherous attempt from beneath the defender. Roma did not quite down with pressure and within a moment Zaniolo curled a strike hitting the post, and Trubin dealt with Dybala’s attempt from the free kick. But Jose Mourinho’s team was able to score two more time before the interval. Mancini shot the goal net of the visitors catching a mistake in the penalty box in the 41st minute. Then Konoplia’s own goal was recorded in the compensated seconds.

Endeavors of the youth

The coaching staff made a series of substitutions prior to the second half-time: Pyatov, Korniienko, Bondarenko, Totovytskyi, Ocheretko, Kashchuk and Sikan entered the pitch. And again an equal beginning of half-time, where both teams demonstrated good pace and acted toe-to-toe, ended with scoring against the Miners. An aggressive attack down the left flank ended with a well-placed shot of Zaniolo. Fresh Kozik and Topalov were taken to Shakhtar lineup: the last one immediately created a danger in the rival box, but his attempt was not finished by Kashchuk and Kulakov. The young Miners were playing more and more bravely. Then we saw Svilar’s saves after Bondarenko’s and Topalov’s attempts. Captain of the hosts Pellegrini responded with hitting the crossbar of Pyatov goal. At the end, Jovicevic gave the opportunity to Kiryukhantsev and Faryna to feel the atmosphere of a great football evening by fielding them for the final section. But three minutes before the final whistle the Romans managed to score again: Bove finalized, making it 5-0.
