FC Shakhtar Director of Football Darijo Srna commented on the transfer of David Neres from Ajax
- Why did Shakhtar acquire David Neres? What qualities of the player interested the club?
- When we buy a player, we always want to get a better player than the one we already have. One of those is Neres whom we’ve been following for a long while, he’s been on our radar for a long time. Today we are happy that we were able to sign up such a young player with a lot of experience who played for a big club in the Champions League. For us, this is a huge step and strengthening.
- Neres is a star player, although usually Shakhtar buy only rising stars. How would you explain this transfer decision?
- This can be described as a message from the president to the fans that we will strengthen up. The president wants to make Shakhtar strong. From the summer until today, he has fulfilled four transfers, I think he will not stop and make Shakhtar even stronger.
- What qualities of Neres could you highlight?
- This is an individually strong footballer while playing one on one. He has already shown his qualities in the matches for Ajax. Neres plays well between the lines, he’s fast. I believe he will immediately fit perfectly well into the team, as we have a lot of Brazilians he knows. I'm sure Neres will give what Shakhtar needs.
