SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and FC Shakhtar provided UAH 2.7 bn in aid to the state

From the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion, the businesses and initiatives of Rinat Akhmetov have been supporting the state, the military and civilians for Ukraine to survive and win and for its people to stay alive and healthy. From February 24 to July 1, SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and Shakhtar football club provided UAH 2.7 billion, or about $90 million, in aid.

Humanitarian assistance to civilians is one of the priority areas of support. In order to make this assistance as effective as possible, its allocation and volumes are determined in coordination with the central and local authorities. People receive food, medicines and essentials. Measures are being taken to evacuate and accommodate the internally displaced persons; shelters, bomb shelters, etc. are being deployed and maintained.

Rinat Akhmetov Foundation donated more than 606,000 units of medicines, over 60,000 blood containers and more than 235,000 food sets to Ukrainian people. In June, Rinat Akhmetov decided to double food aid to the least protected categories of the population and internally displaced persons. In total, 400,000 food sets will be handed over to residents of Ukraine.

Also, the Foundation takes care of filling the Museum of Civilian Voices – the world's largest archive of testimonies by Ukrainians about the events of the war against Russia. They have already collected more than 25,000 stories of people affected by the war.

Another large-scale humanitarian project called Saving Lives is being implemented by the Metinvest and DTEK businesses with the support of the Foundation and international donors. More than 122 thousand people, including socially vulnerable groups, have already received essential kits from the initiative. Medicines and medical products are arriving to Ukraine. In particular, medicines and consumables worth EUR 238,000 were donated to hospitals in Zaporizhzhia and Kamenske. In the front-line cities and towns, they are forming a strategic stock of food products thanks to the project.

Shakhtar Football Club has set up a Shelter Centre at the Arena Lviv stadium, which has already received 1,100 IDPs from the frontline regions. The club also held a series of charity matches as part of the Shakhtar Global Tour for Peace in Ukraine. Proceeds from the sale of tickets and advertising as well as joint events with the club partners (total of UAH 25.6 m) were allocated for assistance to the defenders of Ukraine, volunteer organizations, doctors and children affected by the war. The continuation of the tour has been scheduled for late July. Thanks to the initiative of the Shakhtar Social Foundation, 14 European football clubs organized the collection and delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Ukrainian athletes and military personnel receive humanitarian aid from Shakhtar. Rinat Akhmetov, as the president of the club, decided to provide financial assistance to football clubs and children's football projects in the amount of UAH 60 million.

Lemtrans, together with its partners, continues to develop the logistics humanitarian network called #RailwayHelpsUkraine. Thanks to the project, thousands of Ukrainians receive food, water, medicines, sleeping bags, children's goods on a regular basis.

In total, humanitarian aid from SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and Shakhtar football club has reached over 3 million people, including 1.2 million people taken care of by the Foundation.

The support of our defenders – the Armed Forces of Ukraine, National Guard, National Police and other enforcement units remains an extremely important direction. Defenders consistently receive from SCM businesses ammunition, vehicles, drones, special technical equipment (thermal imagers, rangefinders, cameras, etc.), fortifications, clothing and footwear, first-aid kits and tourniquets, walkie-talkies, fuel and other necessary things and accessories.

Metinvest donated 1,000 kits of special-purpose ammunition worth $2.5 million, including light body armour with ceramic plates, helmets and thermal imagers, to the Main Intelligence Department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence. In addition, the intelligence staff received another 120 thermal imagers worth UAH 15 million. More than 60 drones and 50 night vision devices and special helmets worth UAH 10 million were handed over to the ground forces. Zaporizhstal delivers hundreds and thousands of body armour sets to our defenders every week. Just recently, Metinvest began to supply free armour plates to the military – they just need to make an official request. We should not forget about fortification as well – more than half of the tank traps in Ukraine are made of the metal of Metinvest-SMC.

DTEK power engineers and Ukrtelecom workers daily support the operation of Ukraine's critical infrastructure. Every day, thousands of people, even those in the frontline areas, have power supply, communications and the Internet connection restored after being damaged during the hostilities. Thanks to the work of telecommunications people, Internet services are available in 87% of the settlements of Ukraine, where the Ukrtelecom networks are present (except for Luhansk and Kherson regions). And since February 24, power engineers have restored electric power supply at about 2.9 million homes throughout Ukraine. In addition, free electricity continues to be provided to more than 100 healthcare and defence institutions. Thanks to that, public sector and utility institutions saved UAH 160 million. The evacuation trains of Ukrzaliznytsia and communities have already received 550 tons of coal free of charge.

Work continues to support citizens in the cities and towns where SCM businesses operate. At the support centres based at the enterprises, both employees and local residents, as well as internally displaced persons, receive assistance. Jobs are being created and shelters are being built for the evacuees. Thus, almost a thousand IDPs were employed at the enterprises of DTEK Energy. Metinvest Group provides an opportunity to the employees of its Mariupol enterprises to be trained in key professions with subsequent employment. Support is also provided to local administrations and utilities – from fuel to personal protective equipment for workers.

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the Presidential Office, Media Group Ukraine, jointly with other media groups, continues to provide financial support to the FreeDom international broadcasting channel to counter Russian propaganda.
