Ukraine U21 beat their Armenian counterparts in the final match of the UEFA Euro 2023 qualifying group stage

This game was of no competitive value, therefore the Blue-Yellows’ coach Ruslan Rotan carried out a major rotation of the squad, giving many young players a place in the starting XI.

From the first minutes, the teams delivered some end-to-end action, creating just few dangerous chances though. Zhelizko and Kukharevych had scoring opportunitiesthat did not turn into goals before the break. Before the second half, the coaching staff made several substitutions including the Shakhtar midfielder Heorhii Sudakov. Already in the 49th minute, the Ukrainians opened the scoring: Eldar Kuliyev headed a corner-kick right home, making it 0-1. The Armenian team made an all-out attacking move, hoping to net a prompt equalizer. Instead, they conceded another goal: in the 68th minute, Kostiantyn Vivcharenko sent the ball into the back of the net following Kuliev's assist. 2-0 – Ukraine U21 defeated their Armenian peers.

Following the results of the qualifying tournament, Ruslan Rotan's lads scored 23 points (7 wins, 2 draws, 1 defeat) and claimed the second spot in their group. On June 21, the Blue-Yellows will learn their opponents in the playoffs (the fixtures have been scheduled for September). The winners of the two-legged tie will get a 2023 UEFA European U21 Championship berth. The competition will be held in Georgia and Romania next summer.
