SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and FC Shakhtar provided UAH 2.4 bn in aid to the state

The scale and volume of support to Ukraine and Ukrainians from businessman Rinat Akhmetov continue to grow. From February 24 to June 1, SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and Shakhtar football club provided UAH 2.4 billion, or about $80 million, in aid.

A major portion of this amount is humanitarian aid to civilians. During the first 90 days of the war, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation donated more than 580,000 units of medicines, over 60,000 blood containers and more than 185,000 food sets to Ukrainian people. In order to make this assistance as effective as possible, its allocation and volumes are determined in coordination with the central and local authorities. Local people receive food, medicines and essentials. Measures are being taken to evacuate and accommodate internally displaced persons, shelters, bomb shelters, etc. are being deployed and maintained.

Thanks to the Saving Lives initiative of Metinvest and DTEK businesses, they create a strategic supply of food in the frontline towns, hospitals receive the necessary drugs and materials, and socially vulnerable categories of people receive essential aid kits.

In total, humanitarian aid from SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and Shakhtar football club has reached 2.5 million people since February 24.

The support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, territorial Defence and other enforcement units fighting for Ukraine remains an extremely important direction. Our defenders received vehicles, drones, special technical equipment (from thermal imagers to rangefinders), fortifications, clothing and footwear, body armour and helmets, first aid kits and tourniquets, walkie-talkies, fuel, etc.

Citizen support centres have been set up in the cities and towns where SCM businesses operate. First of all, assistance is provided to socially unprotected people and internally displaced persons. Jobs are being created for the evacuees and shelters are being built. Utility companies in settlements are provided with everything that is possible to supply – from fuel to personal protective equipment for workers. Evacuation trains of Ukrzaliznytsia receive coal free of charge.

DTEK power engineers and Ukrtelecom workers daily support the operation of Ukraine's critical infrastructure, bringing electricity and communications back to Ukrainian homes after shelling. So, in May, DTEK electricians restored electric power supply to more than 687,000 families that were left without electricity as a result of shelling in the Kyiv, Donetsk, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions. In addition, since the beginning of the full-scale war, DTEK has been providing free electricity to more than 100 healthcare and defence institutions. Thanks to this, budgetary and municipal institutions saved UAH 137 million.

Lemtrans, together with its partners, continues to develop the logistics humanitarian network called #RailwayHelpsUkraine. Thanks to the project, thousands of Ukrainians received humanitarian aid from abroad.

Shakhtar Football Club has set up a Shelter Centre at the Arena Lviv stadium, which has already received hundreds of IDPs. The club also held a series of charity matches as part of the Shakhtar Global Tour for Peace in Ukraine. Proceeds from the sale of tickets and advertising (total of UAH 25.6 m) were allocated for  assistance to the defenders of Ukraine, volunteer organizations, doctors and children affected by the war. Thanks to the initiative of the Shakhtar Social Foundation, 14 European football clubs organized the collection and delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the Presidential Office, Media Group Ukraine, jointly with other media groups, continues to provide financial support to the FreeDom international broadcasting channel to counter Russian propaganda.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is also filling the Museum of Civilian Voices, the largest archive of Ukrainians’ testimonies about the events of the war against the Russian Federation. They have already collected more than 15,000 stories of people affected by the war.

Also, even before February 24, SCM businesses were the first to pay UAH 1 billion in taxes upfront (over $30 million) for 2022 on the initiative of Rinat Akhmetov. This step was taken to enhance the defensive capability of the country and support the national economy.

Thus, since the beginning of 2022, the total amount of funds transferred to Ukraine by Rinat Akhmetov is more than $100 million. According to Forbes, Akhmetov's aid amount is the largest among representatives of large Ukrainian businesses.

According to the SCM shareholder Rinat Akhmetov, he does not intend to stop there. “As of today, I have allocated 100 million euros to help Ukraine. Of this amount, 70 million euros has already been spent. And we don't plan to stop. We will help Ukraine and Ukrainians as much as necessary,” he said in an interview with Novoye Vremya periodical.
