Shakhtar U19 and Ukraine U19 midfielder Ivan Losenko commented on the team's performance in the 2022 UEFA Euro U19 elite round
- The national team were just a little short of advancing from the Euro 2022 elite round. Are you upset?
- It’s really embarrassing to realize that we haven’t qualified for the Euro because of the greater number of yellow cards earned. This is the first time I've come across something like that. No matter how paradoxical it may sound, but the victory over the Netherlands was the most regrettable one.
- Did the Serbs prove to be a stronger side?
- Serbia have got a really strong team physically, but play wise, I think we looked better in all games. Football luck was not on our side this time.
- Had you met with Serbia in the last round, could the outcome have been different? After all, the team would’ve taken the field to play just to win.
- It's hard to talk now. I think the game would’ve been equal again, with the luckier side winning.
- Are you happy with the elite-round performance – yours and that of your team?
- We proved ourselves really well, we knew that it would be difficult physically as we all had been without football for three months, but everyone showed their mettle and played to the maximum. I also took to then pitch and gave my all, made some mistakes but, most importantly, we gained a lot of experience. Even this situation can teach us many things.
- Which of the games was the most difficult, who of the opponents managed to surprise you?
- For me personally, the toughest match was the one against Norway. That’s a really strong team both tactically and physically.
- There were fans from Ukraine at the stadium in the Netherlands. Did you feel their support?
- Despite the situation in our country, we knew that they were supporting us. When we appeared for the match against the Netherlands, we felt the atmosphere of the stands. For the first time in my life I played with that kind of support. Many thanks to everyone who attended the game and was with us.
