Shakhtar goalkeeper and captain Andriy Pyatov speaks on his return to the field, the match with Veres (2-0) and the first part of the season

– Andriy, we are glad to see you back on the field and congratulate you on the victory! How did this match turn out for you personally?
– Thank you! It's really great that the coaching staff gave me a chance. There was a mandrake because I didn't play for a long time. Like every player, I felt excitement in the first minutes. However, this is normal, this is what football is loved for. I always say that if there is no longer a little excitement, such a note, then you have to finish with football. Therefore, I realized it is too early for me to finish.

– Soon you can break Sokolovskiy's record. What can you say about this?
– I'm not chasing personal records. Yes, I am very pleased that I have been playing for a long time and am already approaching such an achievement but the main thing now is the victory of the team. So I thanked the boys and coaches for taking this match seriously. And it's good that we played to zero.

– Igor Jovicevic said you are an assistant to the entire coaching staff. Do you feel more like a player or mentor now?
– First, I am a player. I have a valid contract, I also go out on the field and the coaches can count on me. However, secondly, I, like Taras Stepanenko, like Sergii Kryvtsov, am more experienced, and since our team are young, we must help others with our experience and everything we have. Now everyone singles out our team, but we are one: our experience, everything we have done, and young people who have great prospects.

– The first part of the season is coming to an end, there are three UPL matches left. What conclusions can be drawn now regarding the results and the work done?
– Let's sum up after the final game but what we did was completing the minimum task – we got into the Europa League. Until the last match, there were chances to go further in the Champions League but fate was so. We have a young team that not everyone believed in before the start of the season but we showed ourselves. I think we've done a lot of work but we're in second place in the championship right now, so there's still a lot to be done.

– Personally, what did you expect before the start of the season from the current young, Ukrainian Shakhtar?
– We all believed. Because we've been together and we've seen boys’ progress as they grow up. This is the most important thing. I told the guys there was a big difference in what they were like six months ago and what they are now. They are already men. There is experience, understanding in which games it is necessary to add, in which ones, on the contrary, you should go calmer and play out using a technique. Our players do a great job.

– After the match, the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine came to your locker room. What did you talk to them about?
– They are an example for us. We take an example from them, out of their courage because of the way they stand up for our country, how brave and indestructible they are. We thanked them for protecting us, and we, for our part, do everything we can for them.
