Zorya head coach Patrick van Leeuwen commented on the results of the game with Shakhtar (2-2)
– We understood ahead of the match that we are to face good opponents. We had chances in the first time and we can say that it was almost an equal game. We acted on the defensive, carried out counter-attacks practically throughout the entire second half. We had more opportunities to score after our second goal but did not succeed. However, I am satisfied with the final result and work of the team, everyone who appeared, who was on the bench supporting the teammates.
– Are there any injuries in the team?
– No.
– What goals did you set for the team before the second half?
– We felt that we had more opportunities in the first half. We worried a little at the beginning of the game, but then we calmed down and the team started to play their football. In the second half, we wanted to do the same as we did in the end of the first half – to perform in our style and prepare attacks. We quickly scored the second goal, but then we were not able to do more attacks.
– What did you pay attention to in Shakhtar’s play during preparation for the game?
– We mostly focused on our team: how can we play in our style in relation to Shakhtar in defence and attack; we always look for our options and chances to demonstrate our play. We succeeded more on the first half comparing with the second one. We know what good footballers Shakhtar have and what good ones are waiting on the bench.
