The current Eurocup season turned out to be successful for Shakhtar U19, because the team have managed to qualify for the tournament play-offs for the first time since 2014/15 season taking the 2nd spot in the group. Oskar Ratulutra’s side defeated Celtic 1-0 (goal by Pohorilyi) away in the previous round. The team have 9 points (goal difference: 6-10) before Matchday 6, but neither RB Leipzig nor Celtic would be able to catch up with the Miners who will have a guaranteed spot below Real Madrid in the table. It is important to win to play the rest of the championship matches in good spirits
Kyrylo Siheev, midfielder:
– The team has a fighting mood for the match against RB Leipzig. We know that the game doesn’t somehow influence our situation in the group, but we will always play to win, because we are Shakhtar. It is important to win to play the rest of the championship matches in good spirits. I am sure that there will be no problems with motivation, as this is the UEFA Youth League and it is not an everyday thing to show yourself on such a level.
Opponents
Daniel Meyer’s team lost to Real Madrid on the UEFA Youth League MD5 (2-3) and completely dropped out from the fight for the 2nd spot. The Germans are on the 3rd spot with 4 points before Matchday 6, goal difference: 6–8 (win over Celtic and draw with Real Madrid in the first match). RB Leipzig share the 5th spot in the U19 Bundesliga Nord/Nordost with St. Pauli (11 points in 6 rounds, goal difference: 10-8). The Bulls defeated Magdeburg at home in the previous match (3-0).
Match background
The Miners won a victory in the only encounter of the youth teams.
