Shakhtar legend Darijo Srna presented a book about his football career and life

On November 6, Darijo Srna’s autobiography “Zašto te zovu Srna” (Why are you called Srna?) was presented in Croatia.

Dario tells about his path in the book written in co-authorship with famous Croatian journalist Milana Vlaovic: how he did his first steps in sport and survived the war in Yugoslavia as a child, how he realized his dream, having become a world-famous footballer and captain of the Croatian national team.

The idea to write the book belongs to Darijo and I was very honoured to help him with this
Milana Vlaovic, Croatian journalist and writer:

– The idea to write the book belongs to Darijo and I was very honoured to help him with this. We worked on the text for about two years, spend many hours talking. A lot of stories about football and more are gathered in the book. It tells about his personal life, about his family, childhood and youth, formation as a sportsman and a person. Darijo has a unique experience that he shares with his readers. I hope you like this book.

Most of the story is dedicated to the family and, of course, the main club in Srna’s life, Shakhtar Donetsk, with which he has been inseparably connected since 2003 being the team's legendary captain and record holder. Darijo recollects his brightest career episodes and previously unknown stories, tells about his interrelations with the coaches and club partners, friendship with FC Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric and many other famous persons.
This is a book about my life that wasn’t easy, but it showed that you can achieve everything if you believe in yourself. There are many things about Donetsk, Ukraine, Shakhtar which have been a part of my life for 20 year
Darijo Srna, FC Shakhtar Director of Football:

– This is a book about my life that wasn’t easy, but it showed that you can achieve everything if you believe in yourself. There are many things about Donetsk, Ukraine, Shakhtar which have been a part of my life for 20 year. And it was the club offering the idea to write an autobiography in the first place. After reading this book, the fans will learn about Darijo not familiar to many people. There are a lot of things that I have never told, but wrote about them in this book. Even my wife Mirela, when she started reading this book, was surprised that she didn't know everything about me. I think that soon the book will be translated into Ukrainian. I want Shakhtar fans and my fans to know me better after reading this book.

Darijo Srna’s autobiography presentation in Zagreb was visited by his friends among whom there were Croatian football legend Zvonimir Boban, former teammate Igor Duljaj, family of current coach of the Miners Igor Jovicevic and FC Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin.
Dario and I have been together for 20 years, and for me today he is not just the director of the club, but a great friend of mine and all of Shakhtar
FC Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin:

– Dario and I have been together for 20 years, and for me today he is not just the director of the club, but a great friend of mine and all of Shakhtar. For example, his is the club’s president and I still call him a captain and the others call him a legend. Srna lived a colourful life as a football player; he has a lot to tell the fans about. Therefore, I am sure that his book will be a great success. Personally, I want to read it for the reason that Darijo had a life connected not only to Shakhtar, but also outside the club. And it was bright and interesting as well. I was talking to Srna's friends now and even they were surprised by some moments. That’s why I am looking forward for the Ukrainian translation. However, I have no doubt that this is not Darijo's last book. I think we all have big victories ahead so he will have more to tell about.

The book was published in Croatian, but it will soon be translated into Ukrainian. You can buy the issue now online at a price of approximately EUR 17 (about UAH 600). Money from the sale of Darijo Srna’s autobiography will be used for the project supporting children in Ukraine who lost their parents due to the war.
