Shakhtar midfielder Heorhii Sudakov commented on the match vs Celtic
– Heorhii, how can you assess the result tonight?
– It is difficult to tell something about the result, because we had dangerous moments: Mykhailo Mudryk in the first half and Danylo Sikan in the second one. However, Celtic had more initiative with the ball. So, probably, draw is a fitting result.
– What are you feeling now more – satisfaction or disappointment, as you could have won?
– Currently, there are no any feelings at all, because I left a lot of emotions on the pitch. First of all, I want to recover after such match and atmosphere.
– Did everything work out during attacks?
– Of course, we want to work more with the ball, play in the front, make combinations, this is what we do in the Ukrainian league and we wish to transfer it to the Champions League in the matches against such teams like Celtic, Real Madrid, RB Leipzig. I think this is only the beginning. We have huge potential, but we have to do a lot of work.
– You mentioned Sikan’s unconverted chance. Were you about to start cheering about the goal, when you saw the episode?
– Honestly, yes, I was. I didn’t quite get what has happened – it doesn’t happen very often. But it’s okay, Sikan provided an assist, made many attempts, carried out a big amount of work and helped the team a lot. I think it is a life moment you have to overcome and move on.
– They say that you studied not only the opponents before the match, but the fans as well. The coach made performed specific exercises for you to feel all this atmosphere of the stadium. Did you feel pressure from the stands?
– What we were told about, cannot convey even one percent of what we felt. I have never played in such an atmosphere in my life. Of course, it’s a bit difficult, but you get thrilled from such an atmosphere. The Champions League is, first of all, emotions. Playing against such teams for such fans is a thrill.
– Celtic started an assault in the last minutes. What was the most difficult during this time?
– Probably, the most difficult thing was to keep the ball, because the team had already settled down by that time, everyone played in defence, fought back. But what I liked was the concentration until the last minute. Apparently, this factor ensured our result.
– The match against the RB Leipzig is ahead. Are you ready to play?
– Yes, we are hundred-percent ready. We have already done this. We have a strong team, which I think a lot of other teams are afraid of. If before the Champions League we were not considered favourites, now we have shown what we can do and how we play. It will be a very difficult match in Warsaw, but we are ready.
