In the 10th round of the Ukrainian Championship, Shakhtar hosted Oleksandriia at Arena Lviv

The Miners played a UPL match between two key games of the Champions League group stage. After a draw with Celtic (1-1), Igor Jovicevic made small changes in the squad: particularly, from the first minutes he fielded Sergii Kryvtsov in the center of the defense, Yehor Nazaryna in the middle of the field and Danylo Sikan in the forward position.

Difficult game and air raid sirens

The match started with a quick goal but the ball flew into the hosts' net: in the 5th minute, Tsurikov scored from Rybalko's cross with a well-aimed kick into the near nine. After scoring, the Oleksandrians did not press against their goal and imposed a tight struggle in the central zone, which is why it was not too easy for Orange-and-Blacks to deliver the ball to the penalty area of the opponent. Zubkov's attempt from a distance passed over the crossbar, and the guests responded to this with a counterattack and a moment by Miroshnichenko, who from an advantageous position also sent the ball over the crossbar. In the middle of the half, the Donetsk residents were able to open the hosts' defense, and Mudryk scored from Zubkov's pass but the referee cancelled out the goal due to offside of Oleksandr. Sergii Kryvtsov had a good chance, who after Mudryk's high cross kicked the goalkeeper from the corner, however, the ball was taken out of the goal by the defender of Oleksandriia. When more than five minutes remained until the end of the first half, air raid sirens sounded in Lviv and the match was suspended.

The forced pause lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes, and immediately after the resumption of the game, the Shakhtar players equalized the score. In the 42nd minute, Lucas Taylor provided an assist to the penalty area, and Bohdan Mykhailichenko kicked through the goalkeeper 1-1.

Taylor's send-off and exchange of goals

The second half began once more with a dangerous moment at the Miners' goal but this time Trubin helped out taking on Tretyakov's kick. The Donetsk residents responded with their sharp attack: Mykhailichenko played out Mudryk but the Oleksandrians’ keeper parried the winger’s attempt. And when it seemed that the game initiative had completely passed to Orange-and-Blacks, there was a send-off: in the 56th minute, Lucas Taylor fouled in the center of the field and received a second yellow card. Igor Jovicevic responded with substitutions and fielded Matviienko, Sudakov, Traore and Petriak. Despite the large minority, the Donetsk players continued to go forward. Mudryk ran almost from the center line to the visitors' goal, but a kick into the near corner was pulled by Bilyk. The Shakhtar goalkeeper did not lag behind his colleague, coping with Kovalets' powerful kick. Finally, in the 82nd minute, the Donetsk natives managed to get ahead: Petriak cut out a pass to Mykhailo Mudryk, who pushed the ball under the goalkeeper and rolled into an empty goal, 2-1. However, Oleksandrians were not going to give up. First, Kalitvintsev kicked into the crossbar, and in the 86th minute, Demchenko secured a draw for his team with a kick from distance into the left corner. 2-2 – Shakhtar shares points with Oleksandriia.

On Wednesday, November 2, the mentees of Igor Jovicevic will have a decisive match of the Champions League group round – Shakhtar will host Leipzig in Warsaw. The meeting will be held at Stadion Wojska Polskiego and will begin at 19:45 Kyiv time.
