Shakhtar met with Lviv in the postponed UPL round 6 match

Mentor of the Miners Igor Jovicevic made two changes in the starting XI in comparison with the previous game: Matviienko returned to the centre-back position in pair with Rakitskyi, Topalov appeared at left-back, Andrii Totovytskyi operated on the right attacking wing, with Lassina Traore acting as a centre-forward.

Goalless first half

The teams spent the beginning of the game very carefully, taking their time to make any efforts to attack. Kryskiv almost had a one-on-one situation during the opening minutes, but referee flagged an offside. Totovytskyi tried to feed Traore in the penalty area, however the Burkinian failed to get prepared properly to kick. The first threatening chance happened in the middle of the half when Bondarenko carried out a low shot – goalkeeper saved the Lviv-based side and turned the ball for a corner. In the 27th minute, the Orange-and-Blacks had a forced substitution: Oleh Ocheretko took the field instead of injured Dmytro Kryskiv. The opponents exchanged good chances shortly before the break: Stepanenko’s attempt from outside the penalty area was blocked by the defender and Buhai’s shot went high.

Comeback win in the dying seconds

Immediately after the break, Shakhtar players actively went forward and created two chances: Sudakov’s long-ranger was caught by the keeper and Totovytskyi’s shot from the edge of the box below the crossbar made Yurchuk save his team once again. Lviv outfit unexpectedly scored against this background: in the 56th minute, Bohunov made a wing delivery and Gocholeishvili headed the ball into his own goal. However, Igor Jovicevic's men came back in just 5 minutes: Heorhii Sudakov received the ball after the right wing cross and decided to shot from around 25 meters, hitting the target with slight bounce from Hryso – 1-1. Attacks of the Miners became sharper closer to the final segment of the match: at first Rakitsky performed a cannon shot into the crossbar, and then found Traore in the penalty area with a pass, but the forward missed the right corner. The coaching staff of the Pitmen strengthened the attack as much as possible, releasing Kelsy, Sikan and Boriachuk, and in the dying minutes, the Orange-and-Blacks assaulted the opponents’ goal. Kelsy bounced the ball into the keeper's hands, and then headed it just centimetres wide of the post. Stepanenko had an opportunity to finish a corner kick into the far post, but lacked precision. Kelsy had another chance when his attempt from the penalty box centre was blocked by Yurchuk. Sudakov failed to score a brace after a long-range attempt again with bounce – past the goal this time. The denouement came in the 90+4 minute: Sudakov crossed from the wing, Sikan sent the ball and Kevin Kelsy headed it into the far corner! 2-1 – the Miners defeated Lviv in a difficult clash and increased their lead in the UPL table.

On April 16, Shakhtar and Lviv will meet again – within the scheduled UPL MD21 this time. Match at the Arena Lviv kicks off at 14:00 as well.
