In the 19th round of the UPL, Shakhtar played against Chornomorets in Odesa
The starting line-up of the Miners included Giorgi Gocholeishvili as a right winger, Yehor Nazaryna in the holding area and Lassina Traore in the central forward position.
Goal scoring opening stage
The match started with an extremely early goal: in the 21st second, Bondarenko led Dmytro Kryskiv to a shooting position, the midfielder put the ball into the far top corner from the left edge of the penalty area – 0-1. However, Odesa team quickly equalized the score: in the 9th minute, the referee registered Nazaryna’s handball in the penalty area after VAR prompt and awarded the spot-kick, which Illia Putria converted. The Orange-and-Blacks did not give up and continued to attack. Sudakov had two good opportunities – first he shot over the crossbar, and then he hit the goalkeeper from close range. Traore, who Bondarenko passed the ball to with unguarded net, had a wonderful moment, but the Burkinian managed to miss the target. And yet, in the 19th minute, Shakhtar took the lead for the second time: Giorgi Gocholeishvili decided to perform a long-range shot from the right corner of the penalty area, and the ball deflected off the defender of the host team into the goal – 1-2, and this is the Georgian newcomer’s debut goal for Shakhtar. In the middle of the half, the game calmed down a little and the intensity decreased, but shortly before the break, Chornomorets found their chance: in the 41st minute, after a corner cross, Saliuk pushed the ball into the net from the goalmouth. Sudakov could have scored in the added time, but Nepogodov saved his shot from the penalty area.
Goalless half and final draw
From the start of the second half, Shakhtar players actively went forward again: Traore passed the ball to Kryskiv with an overhead kick, but he shot over the crossbar, then Lassina threw the ball to Sudakov – Heorhii’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper, and then the Burkinian himself finished Konoplia’s cross – Nepogodov saved the team again. Odesa side went deeper into defence, and Shakhtar started aggressive pressing. To keep the pace, Igor Jovicevic revived the team with substitutions, releasing Sikan and Topalov, and a little later – Djurasek and Kelsy. Long-range attempts were made by Nazaryna (defender’s block) and Matviiienko (off target). Odesa team responded with a counterattack with Alefirenko coming out in the centre – Trubin saved Shakhtar. In the last minutes, Djurasek had an opportunity, but after Bondar’s pass he headed the ball into the goalkeeper’s hands. 2-2 – Shakhtar and Chornomorets played a draw.
In the next round, on April 8, the Miners will play in Uzhhorod against Metalist. The match will kick off at 14:00.
